Alameda High School may have had its graduation in the relatively close space of Denver’s Ellie Caulkins Opera House on May 23, but that didn’t stop families and friends from filling the space with cheers and hollers.

“Congratulations on reaching this milestone. I’m so proud of all of you,” said Jaylen Spires, senior class president. “We’ve gotten through the last four years as a family, but this is the only the beginning.”

During her valedictorian speech, Lisa Nhu Ngoc Truong encouraged her classmates to enjoy and appreciate the moment — one they’d been working toward for so long.

Faculty speaker Andrew Cogswell gave his students two simple pieces of advice — show up and work hard.

“Showing up is more than just being there. It’s being present and prepared,” he said. “These are not just habits, but a state of mind. If you do both of these, good things will happen.”
