Castle View

  • The Sabercats' Sept. 22 softball contest against Douglas County will be "honor the community game" with a female firefighter/paramedic from firehouse 154, a female UH-60 helicopter commander and three World War II veterans honored.
  • The 2-0 boys soccer victory over crosstown rival Douglas County on Sept. 14 stretched the unbeaten streak over the Huskies to seven games. Castle View leads the series 7-1-1.
  • Sisters Lauren and Leanne Lowry set four season volleyball records last year. Lauren, a senior this year, set records with 54 aces and 0.6 aces a set. Leanne, a current sophomore, established team highs of 518 digs and 843 assists.

Douglas County

  • Douglas County's boys soccer team was winless in 2016, but under new coach Randy Freeman, the Huskies have already won six of eight games this season.
  • Slow starts are familiar to the football team. The Huskies are 0-3 this season and started last year with three losses. In 2015 the team won just once in the first nine games and was 1-4 to begin the 2014 campaign.
  • The football booster club sold a lot of merchandise during the Ponderosa game on Sept. 8 to members of the Medical Strength and Conditioning Association of Japan, which was visiting the school.

Lutheran

  • After starting 0-2, the volleyball team took a nine-match winning streak into a Sept. 20 game against Prospect Ridge Academy.
  • The football team will be out to make it two wins in a row Sept. 22 at Falcon after collecting its first victory of the year with a 16-0 triumph over Eagle Valley Sept. 15.
  • Both Lutheran and Prospect Ridge Academy will be seeking to score their first goals in the 3A Metro League this season when the teams meet Sept. 20. Lutheran is 0-1 in the league and Prospect Ridge 0-3.

Rock Canyon

  • There are two new cross country record holders who have set school bests this season. Senior Chris Theodore's 15:23 set the new boys standard while sophomore Hope James ran a record 18:30.
  • Junior quarterback Adam Mullen has been effective so far this season and has a 118.3 quarterback rating in three games. He has completed 32 of 62 passes for 601 yards with eight touchdowns and one interception.
  • Senior infielder Shelby Lamkin is pacing the softball team with a .630 batting average and a .667 on-base percentage.

Valor Christian

  • The Eagles football team will put a 13-game winning streak on the line Sept. 22 against Pomona, the team that Valor beat in the past two state title games. However, the Panthers have won regular-season games against the Eagles the past two seasons.
  • Junior twin brothers Ben and Ty Findlow have gone their separate ways athletically. Ben is on the tennis team and Ty plays golf for the Eagles.
  • Coach Dave Atencio's softball team has compiled an impressive record over the past four seasons. The three-time defending 4A state champions are 82-3 including an 11-0 mark through games of Sept. 16.
