At least 20 cars were broken into in Douglas County in late January, and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in gathering information on the case and locating suspects.
According to a Feb. 1 news release, deputies were called Jan. 30 to two different apartment complexes along Park Meadows Drive in Lone Tree and unincorporated Douglas County after residents reported that their cars were broken into.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said it appears Honda and Hyundai vehicles were targeted. Many of the vehicles reportedly had their door locks punched.
Detectives believe the criminals started breaking into vehicles as early as 9:45 p.m. Jan. 29, according to the release.
One of the suspects appears to be a White male with a thin build, the sheriff’s office said. The suspects were driving a silver or gray Kia Sportage, which the sheriff’s office thinks may have been stolen.

If residents see something suspicious, the sheriff’s office said they should call (303) 660-7500.
The sheriff’s office also reminded residents to take all valuables out of their car, as “many crimes occur when the suspect sees something of value inside the vehicle,” per the release.
