The victim's boyfriend, 39-year-old Michael Sandoval, is in custody.
It happened near Benedict Park in the 1800 block of Skeel Street shortly before 2 p.m. Police tweeted that Sandoval took the unidentified woman to Platte Valley Medical Center for treatment of a knee injury. He left the hospital but returned a short time later. Police arrested Sandoval after his return.
Details on what happened are sketchy, though police are leaning toward a domestic violence incident. Sandoval could face first-degree assault, tampering with evidence, false imprisonment and domestic violence charges. It's up to the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office to make the decision.
Those with information about this shooting should call 303-288-1535 and reference case No. 21-5384. Those who need help with domestic-violence-related issues can call 1-800-799-SAFE (7233).
