The Castle Rock Band and American Legion Post #1187 will present their annual Memorial Weekend concert on Sunday, May 26th at 2:00 pm. The performance of patriotic music has become a tradition in Castle Rock, and will feature a flag ceremony by the American Legion. The band’s musical selections include “Semper Fidelis” and “The Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Phillip Sousa, “A Celebration of Taps” by Daniel Butterfield and Jerry Brubaker, and “Armed Forces Salute,” a medley of songs arranged by Bob Lowden representing the U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard.All Castle Rock Band concerts are presented free of charge as a service to the community. The public is invited to the event which will be held at the bandstand in front of the Philip S. Miller Library on Wilcox Street in Castle Rock. Audience members are encouraged to bring folding chairs and sun protection. This is the first concert of the Castle Rock Band’s Outdoor Summer Concert Series. After the Memorial Weekend Concert, the band’s next performance will be a patriotic evening concert at the bandstand on Saturday, June 29 at 7:30 pm. The Castle Rock Band is made up of volunteer musicians from Douglas County and the surrounding area. Members range from high school age to senior citizens.
