Let experts make health decisions

Per your article, “County opts out of Tri-County dial extension,” Abe Laydon’s quote “I want ... Douglas County to be the first county in the state to say the pandemic is over” is totally irresponsible. I do not see an MD or PhD after his name. Is he a doctor, a public health, research, or infectious disease specialist? If not, to make uninformed political comments about the health and well-being of Douglas County residents is not befitting an elected official who was elected to represent all of us and not just his right-wing constituency,

What Laydon and the rest of the Republican commissioners do not understand is that by putting their political beliefs and call for personal freedom above the rest of the population, they are making members of the entire county less free and unsafe. Until Laydon and his colleagues have the credentials to speak and vote on public health issues, they should abstain and let the experts determine policy. Only then will the pandemic be lessened and hopefully over.
