Hundreds turned out for the annual Memorial Day ceremony at the Parker Cemetery May 27. Retired U.S. Army Col. Lindy Blackburn delivered a message about the meaning of the day, as did Mayor Mike Waid.

Memorial Day is dedicated to remembering those who served and gave the ultimate sacrifice. As part of the yearly tradition, the names of every veteran buried in Parker Cemetery were read.

Members of the Fort Carson Fourth Engineer Battalion Honor Guard presented the colors and performed a 21-gun salute for the fallen soldiers.

A flyover of an F-16 from the Colorado Air National Guard kicked off the ceremony. The Parker American Legion Post No. 1864 raised the U.S. flag.

This was the ninth annual Memorial Day ceremony at the cemetery.
