Road closures are becoming the norm, thanks to today's strong winds thatu are blowing through all parts of the Denver area.

Authorities reopened Colorado Highway 93 between state Highways 72 and 128, north of Golden shortly after 1 p.m. It had been closed for about a half-hour because of downed power lines. The Jeffco Sheriff's Office tweeted that trucks have been blown over because of the wind.

The city of Arvada posted a tweet that said the town square Christmas tree diudn't survive today's winds. City officials are asking people to avoid the area while cleanup continues.

In Broomfield, the winds blew a trampoline into some power lines. No injuries, according to a tweet from North Metro Fire Rescue. Commerce City police closed the 6100 block of Kearney Street because of wind damage and unsafe power lines.

The Colorado State Patrol said I-25 is under a high-profile vehicle restrictionm between New Mexico and the Douglas/Elbert County line.

United Power crews responded to interruptions of service in the mountain areas west of Golden and areas north of Brighton. At 12:30 p.m., almosts 370 customers were without service, down from almost 1,700 earler in the afternoon.

A tweet from the Weld County Sheriff's Office said "visibility is zero" in the northern part of the county. U.S. Highway 85 is closed between Weld County Road 100 and the state line.

South Metro Fire Rescue tweeted crews are responding to several downed trees and electrical lines in Littleton,.No injuries have been reported.

"This is not your avereage wind," the CSP tweeted. "This is a push-you-out-of-your-lane-knock-your-vehicle-over kind of wind. Be prepared."

The National Weather Service said winds could gust to 80 mph west of I-25 through early this afternoon. The winds should spread across the rest of Denver by the middle of the afternoon. and quiet down later tonight.

NWS reported a wind gusts of 59 mph in the Ken Caryl Ranch area. Another gust of 67 mph was reported neare the Chatfield Reservoir. A 68 mph wind gust was reported south-southeast of Pleasasnt View, which is just east of Golden. A gust of 69 mph was recorded near Arvada.
