Q&A with Caryn Harlos, candidate for state House District 45

Party: Libertarian

Residence: Castle Rock

Contact: carynannharlos@gmail.com

What makes you the best choice for this office?

I am not a politician. We have had enough of politicians. I am a mature woman who has been through many typical struggles of the middle class that is representative of my district. I do not believe in preferential treatment on the basis of race or gender but the reality is, representation matters. During my time in public life, I realize that not only are there not enough women in politics, there are not enough women who are not replicas of the men in politics — stuffed shirts. As an autistic woman, I also bring a timely perspective as our autistic children mature.

If you're elected, what one single issue will be at the top of your agenda?

Reducing the size and scope of government. Everyone has already had parents. They don't need the government to be another parent, and a bad one at that.

If you're elected, what must you accomplish in order for you to consider your term a success?

Serve in public office with my integrity intact with a reputation for transparency and accountability.

If you're elected, how will you work to help the state economy recover from the COVID-19 pandemic?

Get government out of the way as much as possible. Too many cooks in the kitchen spoil the soup.

If elected, what do you see as your role in leading the community through the ongoing pandemic?

Getting government out of the way as much as possible. Those who are the producers — the businesses and workers — know their own interests and successes far better than I do.
