What makes you the best choice for this office?
My experience in the state House, serving on multiple committees, on the Joint Budget Committee, my working relationship with locally elected Douglas County officials and board members, and my 34 years living in Douglas County, a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family.
If you're elected, what is one single issue that will be at the top of your agenda?
We are facing an unprecedented budget crisis in the state, one that will require a complete understanding of the budget process and the multiple conflicts that brought us to this point. As one of the six members of the Joint Budget Committee, I'm familiar with the process and can make sure Douglas County views are taken into account. The JBC is a year-round committee and receives quarterly economic forecasts, so I'm already getting prepared for the upcoming session.
If you're elected, what must you accomplish in order for you to consider your term a success?
Colorado law requires that the state budget be balanced every year. Unlike the federal government, we cannot have debt or spend more than is received. The only absolute requirement for the legislature to accomplish each session is to produce a balanced budget.
In your eyes, what issues do you hear constituents care about most?
Currently, ending the pandemic and getting back to work and school are forefront on most people's minds. While there are multiple ways to accomplish a return to normalcy as we knew it, all avenues must be pursued. Parents are very keen on getting their children back in school full time, and business owners are anxious to return to their own business models without constraint.
Why are you seeking this office?
I love Douglas County, and am proud to have raised my children here. While there are many services government can provide us, it's important to prevent overreach, since every citizen has the right to their own version of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. While I support term limits, my experience and position on the Joint Budget Committee will allow me to serve our county and our state well for my fourth and final term in the House.
