Campaign website: https://laurahefta.com

What makes you the best choice for this office?

From my legal, business, military, and government background, I know how to propose and implement policy to accomplish key objectives. I learned these skills in the Army as a judge advocate and from my civilian attorney positions with the Department of Defense, the comptroller of the currency and my own law firm. In my previous positions I have created policy, approved budgets, and analyzed complex legal and business matters regarding land usage and environmental issues. What makes me the best choice for this office is that I have the experience to effectively serve in this government position.

If you're elected, what is one single issue that will be at the top of your agenda?

The velocity of growth in Parker is an issue at the top of my agenda. I support opportunities to implement strategic changes to the Master Plan to manage growth as Parker evolves and support preservation of open space. Growth can be balanced with sensible choices to bring services that a well-rounded community needs. Balanced growth involves a review of the town's strategic planning initiatives, business planning efforts and evaluation of organizational goals in conjunction with community needs. I support requiring accountability from developers as it relates to infrastructure and finances in accordance with the Master Plan.

If you're elected, what must you accomplish in order for you to consider your term a success?

Being a successful public servant means that you are committed, knowledgeable, respectful and honor the needs of our residents. I would like to accomplish the elimination of blighted properties and revitalization of those properties, adding businesses that serve residents based on resident input and preserving open space. When complex issues arise, I will examine all the facts, analyze the data, listen to our residents, and promote strategic solutions for our town. As your next town councilmember I will advocate for effective policies and collaborate with fellow council members on solutions to multiple issues that affect our town.

In your view, what is (or should be) the role and responsibility of a Parker Town Council member?

Town councilmembers act in a legislative, executive and quasi-judicial capacity. Town councilmembers vote on ordinances, approve the town budget and make policy decisions for municipal government. A councilmember must be decisive, bring solutions to issues that will improve our town and evaluate projects on their merits with input from the community. Councilmembers should understand land use planning, water resource management, environmental law, public safety and transportation issues. Most importantly, town councilmembers must be willing to learn about a wide range of topics that affect Parker and serve residents with dedication and integrity.

Why are you seeking this office?

I am seeking this office to serve my community and provide an active voice to our residents on matters that affect our community. I regularly volunteer my legal expertise to SECOR Cares, the Parker Senior Center, Southeast Christian Church and other small businesses in Parker, pro bono. I am a people-oriented person and will listen to the concerns of our residents. I will take decisive action to work on issues that impact Parker residents and improve our community. Once elected, I intend to serve the residents of Parker with integrity, respect, and professionalism. Keep Parker Beautiful!
