The Castle Rock Police Department arrested a second man in connection to the shooting at the King Soopers on Ridge Road Aug. 22, according to a news release.
Police arrested Benito Bautista, 25, of Denver, the final suspect involved in the case, according to police. The department said Hugo Vazquez-Topete, 26, of Aurora, was also arrested in connection to the shooting.
Castle Rock police collaborated with the Denver Police Department, Aurora Police Department and the FBI Safe Streets taskforce to track down the suspect, who was arrested in Denver after allegedly trying to escape arrest from the Denver Police and the Safe Streets taskforce.
“It is always encouraging to see great efforts pay off when agencies combine forces and bring violent criminals to justice," Castle Rock Chief of Police Jack Cauley stated. “I am proud of all the hard work that went in to getting these individuals off the street and making our community a safer place.”
The victim is not being identified by police, but has been released from the hospital.
Castle Rock police have recommended more than 30 criminal charges between the two defendants. They will be tried by the 18th Judicial District. One suspect faces a charge of attempted first-degree murder, a Class 2 felony with a presumptive sentencing range of 16-48 years.
